>> Businesses may be cutting back on technology spending, but one company is making a $45 million bet that server space will avoid the chopping block.
Internap Network Services Corp. (Nasdaq: INAP), an Atlanta-based provider of Internet and technology services, is finishing the construction of a 45,000-square-foot collocation facility in Somerville.
The new operation sits across the street from Internap’s existing 70,000-square-foot facility in Somerville. Collocation facilities — unlike data centers, which tend to cater to a single tenant — are leased to multiple companies to house data center infrastructure.
The first phase of the facility, about 16,000 square feet, will open at the end of the month. It is about 30 percent preleased, according to company officials.
