Samsung conference call

a few comments from Engadget:

>>Expecting that smartphone, smart tablets and devices like the Note will "contribute to overall growth."

Q1 2012 demand is expected to decrease compared to this quarter, but the Galaxy Note demand will increase thanks to the US launch (on AT&T with LTE).

It's another "remarkable" quarter, largely thanks to strong sales of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus.

both smartphones and tablets will see "solid growth" throughout the year.

secondary markets

from the Cypress conference call (SA transcripts):

>In the end, of course, the numbers of handsets seems to dominate. But there are some secondary markets where we've done extremely well like digital still cameras, which are meaningful contributions. And relative to at least handsets is people still spend so much time talking about them. Areas like white goods and automotive, we've had quite significant success, obviously, those are much slower growth market, but have much more stability. And I would say given the fact -- like in automotive, in fact, we actually have automotive touchscreen products that makes us unique, and we're dominating that design and space. So those are markets that aren't as flashy short term, but long term, I think, it should be significant to our bottom line.

Immersion Corporation: The Calm Before The Storm?

Read the whole article at Seeking Alpha:

>>The recent conclusion of CES, the International Consumer Electronics Show, gives us a good opportunity to review new product launches that also included haptic technology, to try forecast the impact of the introduction of these devices to Immersion Corporation's (IMMR) future revenue stream. In addition, some recently awarded patents and a new company approach aimed at defending its IP also in what is now known as "basic haptic" (and used in many popular smartphones available in the market), may justify analyzing this small company again for SA readers.

Equinix power failure

from FB:

>>This morning, an Equinix data center experienced a power failure that affected a number of customers, including Zoho. We immediately notified the affected customers and full service was restored within a matter of seconds. We are investigating the root cause of the issue. We deeply regret the impact and inconvenience this incident caused our customers.

Data Center Supply And Demand Dynamics

Read the whole article at Seeking Alpha:

>>Building data centers is a very capital-intensive business, that also requires very good insight into future demand, as bringing a new facility on line may necessitate up to 18 months, with several additional months needed to fill it up in case of multi-tenant locations.

While the business model is now generally recognized as a potentially very margin-rich activity, supply and demand remains the single most important factor investors should be looking at, as it strongly impacts market pricing for data centers and profitability for the companies involved in the sector.

Future games machines to read your emotions

from http://eandt.theiet.org:

>>One of Sony’s most striking goals was advanced haptics that can replicate sensations as specific as stroking a cat. “What we have today is solely based on vibration.” Tsuruta-san then envisaged the use of broader sensor technology that might read vital signs, body heat and facial expressions to gauge a player’s emotions and use them in the context of a game.

Sony hints at super-HD, haptic and sensor tech for PS4

from www.mcvuk.com:

>One of the most interesting points regarded haptic technology. E&T reports that the new tech is able to replicate sensations, taking feedback way beyond simple vibration and resistance.
