Piper Jaffray Reports Equinix Continues To Be Bullish

from Benzinga:

>>In a report published by Piper Jaffray, Equinix (NASDAQ: EQIX) continues to be bullish.

Piper Jaffray said that it recently hosted investor meetings with the senior management of Equinix. “We continue to be bullishly confident about the company's prospects and the current valuation. Investors we met with shared similar concerns with each other, and we think time will help alleviate them, driving the stock higher. While investors were focused on small movements in average revenue per rack, Equinix has maintained a firm pricing discipline. While discounting has always occurred, we do not believe it is any more prevalent; some contract structures with upfront discounts can provide much better longer term economics.”

PFGBEST Announces Equinix to Host Typhoon Direct Market Access Platform

Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) March 11, 2011 -

PFGBEST announced a new partnership to relocate its Typhoon foreign exchange liquidity aggregation system to Equinix's New York International Business Exchange (NY4). With the announcement of this partnership, Equinix will become the host of the PFGBEST direct market access platform Typhoon. PFGBEST is a financial services technology firm with global outreach. With customers, offices, and affiliates in more than eighty countries, PFGBEST is one of the largest non-clearing U.S. Futures Commission Merchants.

Explaining Typhoon, PFGBEST Chief Operating Officer Russ Wasendorf said, "Typhoon is a direct market access (DMA) system that provides straight-through processing of PFGBEST client foreign exchange orders." PFGBEST's Typhoon can be tailored to meet the demands of our clients. In addition, this trading platform offers ease of access through any of the PFGBEST electronic trading applications. Typhoon was created so that PFGBEST clients are never at the mercy of a third-party vendor. According to Wasendorf, "We felt the need to build a platform of this caliber to best serve our clients, and it is a huge success." Since PFGBEST created the Typhoon system for FX clients in 2009, volume has increased 30% each month through the PFGBEST direct market access system.

Equinix General Manager of Global Financial Services John Knuff said having PFGBEST join the growing financial ecosystem means that PFGBEST can offer its clients high speed connectivity achieved in the proximity hosting agreement. He expressed that Equinix "is thrilled" to have PFGBEST as a partner. Hedge funds, execution venues, firms, network providers, market data suppliers and trading technology venders utilize Equinix. Equinix services more than 3,100 enterprises, cloud, digital content, and financial companies connecting to more than 600 network providers, and Knuff said that these entities rely upon proximity hosting solutions Equinix provides to improve and grow their business.

"Equinix is a high-performing global trading ecosystem," noted PFGBEST's Wasendorf. PFGBEST believes that Equinix gives clients access that is efficient and resilient when it comes to exchanges and markets, he added.

"It is important to us at PFGBEST that our FX clients can capitalize on our successful business model that we have created for direct market access and the liquidity hub of the largest banks. We are truly excited about this partnership with Equinix," Wasendorf stated. Wasendorf maintained that PFGBEST provides a single source of liquidity for forex traders. "The partnership between PFGBEST and Equinix adds further value to our forex clients in reducing latency," he continued. Reducing latency is fundamental to getting the available best price. "Traders profit and compete based upon time frames," noted Wasendorf, "and PFGBEST is about offering the best trading experience for our clients."

Making sure that clients' orders match the best available pricing, the PFGBEST Typhoon system functions as a strict no-dealing-desk environment.

from the yahoo MB, by lamb:

>>From a strictly MEDICAL viewpoint, CK and TOMO are not competitors but compliment each other. CK is an SRS tool and TOMO is terrific for IMRT. Yes these roles can be reversed in some cases but the tech is not designed for this and is unwieldly (eg - using CK for a protracted course of IMRT). TOMO is not an "inferior gantry-based radiation sprayer". TOMO is a fabulous innovation in radiation delivery in which radiation is delivered in thousands of beamlets in a helical pattern like a CT, which mitigates a good deal of the disadvantage in delivering beams in 2D only. Yes I know there has been a good deal of down time and service costs with the initial TOMO units. IMO TOMO is superior to gantry LINACs for IMRT, though this advantage is less than that of CK over gantry LINACs for SRS.

This is the medical aspect. For the financial metrics I turn to this board. My intuition tells me ARAY would have been better off concentrating on CK and SRS, where their technological advantage is greater. Discontinuing TOMO would help Var more than ARAY. And I'm willing to stand corrected by engineers, but it is not obvious to me why ARAY service people who have worked on the miniature Linac and KUKA robot would have particular skills over others working on a helical LINAC like TOMO, completely different technology.

Market Share Implications of Accuracy's TomoTherapy Acquisition

from Benzinga:

>>Citi released a report today which discusses the implications of Accuracy's (NASDAQ: ARAY) acquisition of TomoTherapy (NASDAQ: TOMO) and its effects on Varian Medical Systems' (NYSE: VAR) market share. While the deal will allow ARAY to expand from radiosurgery into radiotherapy, Citi analysts do not believe this will have near-term impacts on VAR's position in the radiation oncology market. This is due in part to VAR's relatively large market share of 55% compared to the single-digit shares of ARAY and TOMO.

Analysts further note that despite TOMO's recent underperformance, the newly combined organization should be profitable in future quarters. ARAY has expanded its market share but is still trailing key competitors such as Varian, Elekta, and Siemens. Analysts also believe that the ARAY deal is the best possible outcome for TOMO.

KDDI America Expands Its Metro Network in the West Coast Area

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - March 7, 2011) -

KDDI America Inc., the U.S. division of KDDI Corporation, a Global Fortune 500 company and worldwide leader in international telecommunications services, today announced that it has launched KDDI America MetroWave in the Los Angeles metropolitan area extending up the West Coast. This service offering provides a wide variety of flexible and affordable, high-performance network services to customers on the West Coast, the International Gateway to Asia Pacific.

The KDDI network will connect between the major data centers on the West Coast such as TELEHOUSE Los Angeles, Equinix LA1 Los Angeles, Equinix SV8 Palo Alto, and Equinix SV1 San Jose. By connecting the metro networks between these data centers, KDDI America can provide Internet or Ethernet services as a very cost effective solution to their customer base. Enterprises, ISPs, or content providers who are seeking access from their data center on the West Coast to Asia or from Asia to their data center will benefit.

By deploying the optical technology of dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) in its metro fiber network, KDDI America is capable of accommodating high-capacity circuits within multiple sites in the West Coast area. Through a wavelength of light on an optical fiber, seamless interconnections are available to different transport interfaces such as SDH/SONET, as well as Ethernet transport high-capacity from OC48 scaling up to OC192 and 1Gbps scaling up to 10Gbps. Separated wavelengths of capacity per fiber strand allow KDDI America to provide flexible, high-speed bandwidth and scalability with faster provisioning lead times. MetroWave has backbone capacity of up to 800Gbps.

The KDDI America MetroWave network is seamlessly integrated to connect customers located at any of the four data centers to KDDI America's existing network services including its Internet, IP-VPN and domestic and global Ethernet service offerings, US Powered Ethernet Network (US-PEN) and KDDI Global Powered Ethernet Network (GPEN). As a result, customers can access MetroWave from any of US-PEN's Points of Presence which include New York, NY; Los Angeles, CA; Palo Alto, CA; Chicago, IL; Ashburn, VA and Dallas, TX. By having access to TELEHOUSE's global network of data centers, KDDI America can offer its customers colocation and network services in safe, secure data centers with low-latency connectivity in 22 cities in 15 countries around the world.

"In the past year, KDDI America has seen a heightened demand for connectivity over wavelength services from several industries such as software providers, entertainment and media firms," said Sandra de Novellis, Director of Marketing, KDDI America. "KDDI America meets its customers' needs by allowing them to expand their network seamlessly from Los Angeles to San Francisco and beyond by connecting them to the International Gateway."

Customers interested in learning more about MetroWave products and pricing should contact KDDI America by dialing 212-295-1200 or email at
