Data centres are actually pretty interesting

>>Data centres are actually pretty interesting

I had the opportunity this week to tour a purpose-built data centre this week, thanks to Equinix, which provides network-neutral data centre and interconnection services. The tour provided me with a fascinating insight to the thinking and planning needed for something that is undoubtedly a core element of today's computing infrastructure.

Indeed, despite only opening in October 2007, Equinix's LD4 facility in Slough is expected to reach maximum capacity in a couple of years time, and the company is already building a much larger data centre (LD5) nearby, which will open sometime in the second quarter of 2010.
